Cyber Forensics Camp:  Camp gets a spot on Forensic Magazine

NSU partnered with the Cyber Innovation Center in Bossier City, LA to host an inaugural Cyber Forensics camp.  The camp was held July 13 - 18, 2009.  Thirty six high school students and twelve teachers from Bossier, Captain Shreve, Haughton, Huntington, Manfield and Parkway high schools participated.  The camp was sponsored and marketed by the Cyber Innovation Center.

The College of Business directed and developed the camp curriculum for this multi-disciplinary camp.  NSU's Biology, Chemistry, Computer Information Systems, Criminal Justice, Geography, History, Law, and Literature academic departments collaborated on this camp.  Camp participants were involved in the simulation of the investigation of a crime using actual cyber forensics techniques and processes.  The final camp competition consisted of the high school student teams integrating the week by presenting their evidence and findings solving the crime to a real judge.

The camp goals were to:

  • promote the teaching of cyber technologies and contemporary issues involving technology in high schools through an immersive experience for teachers and students
  • generate excitement for the study of science and technology and to further encourage students to pursue majors and careers in science, forensics and cyber technologies

High school teachers were placed in a position to mentor their students on the materials presented in the camp and to also take the materials back with them to integrate into the curricula of their schools.
