FACULTY MEETING MINUTES
January 14, 2005

New Business
1) Dr. Worley announced that that he would retire on June 30, 2005. He said that it was
not an easy decision for him to make.
2) Notebooks for Promotion and Tenure are due by Tuesday, February 1, 2005.
3) Budget shortfall for State projected to be $4,000,000.00 next year. NSU will have to
return some money. Some budgets will be frozen.
4) The College of Business is producing many semester credit hours. Several sections of
BUAD 1040, FIN 2150, and MKTG 2200 in the classroom and Internet were added.
5) Dr. Creighton is to be commended as the Director of Business Programs. He is returning
to the classroom and will not be retiring now.
6) Terry Bechtel discussed the raffle of the 2005 PT Cruiser convertible. This raffle is
to try to complete the Barry Smiley Endowed Professor. Tickets are $10 each.
Sponsorships are being offered to business for $500 and $1,000. Drawing will be held
on May 9, 2005.
7) Plagiarism prevention was discussed. There is a website: turnitin.com
8) Junior Day is Saturday, January 29, 2005. Academic browse will begin at 12:30 p.m.
Faculty who volunteered to attend: Schaub, Heslop, Pollacia, Williams.
9) The AACSB team noted the requirement that 2 Refereed Journal Publications are required
in last 5 years (minimum). This is not the same as Tenure and Promotion minimum
requirement and will not get you promoted. Visitation Team recommended that there was
an increased weight of Journal Articles and Publications increase minimum evaluation
60-40. We should double the weight of research 60-20-10. The next visit from AACSB
will be in 5 years and accreditation will be in 6 years.
10) FBLA District Rally will be Friday, February 18, 2005 from 8 a.m. to 12 noon.
11) The advising of students was discussed. Be careful-the sciences can be confusing,
and PE activities will not count as Electives Not in the College of Business.
12) The Annual Taxable Income Compensation Forms were completed and turned in at this
meeting.
13) Dion Boyett sent a message to the meeting that the SBDC Conference Room could be made
available for testing purposes, but please make arrangements to use it prior to the
time it is needed.
