1. KEY POLICY was addressed. Individuals signed the Safety Meeting Sheet acknowledging they
had read the policy. Liability of signing sheets losing individual keys held by each faculty
member was discussed. Further study of this matter will be done.
2. SERVICE POINTS are needed by each faculty member. Activities to be held for academic year
have been listed. Faculty members can sign up for each after meeting.
3. FORMULA FUND HANDOUTS were distributed and discussed. It appears being the best got the
least funding. There have been promises to start funding differently.
4. ESTABLISH RETENTION GOALS is the primary purpose of this meeting. NSU will be partially funded
next year on retention. We are being pressured to graduate more students. Dr. Worley would like
College of Business to still keep up standards. We have a quality program now and would like to
keep it. We had 7% loss two years ago and the bulk loss was from suspensions. Have to come up
with objectives and strategy for achieving better retention. FIG (Freshman Interest Groups) were
started last year. College of Business has Orientation class and two sections of BUAD 1040 and
two sections of CIS 1800. These students get acquainted and feel more at home. Suggestions were
made to try to raise retention of full-time, first-time freshman re-entering for second year by
1% (this may be a realistic goal). Faculty should e-mail their suggestions to Dr. Worley.
College of Business has 1246 identified majors. Twenty percent (234) with averages of 2.1 or less
were sent notices in their classes to see their advisors for counseling this semester.
Some suggestions from faculty were:
  a) Send e-mail to all advisees.
  b) Students who fail first test in the BUAD 1040 and CIS 1800 classes are asked to go see Dean.
  c) Dr. Cooley suggested that faculty from different majors go to Fort Polk and meet some of the
		students who attend there.
  d) Try to improve advising of the students.
  e) Town Hall meetings for majors and group advising sessions. Please e-mail suggestions to Dr. Worley.
5. DR. WORLEY LISTED SCHEDULE PROBLEMS FOR STUDENTS
  a. Excessive loads
  b. Too many "hard courses" in same semester
  c. Long work hours
  d. Long commutes
  e. Classes bunched on TR, MW
  f. Textbook and financial problems.
6. PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT FUNDS FROM CURIA. Dr. Pollacia had attended a CURIA meeting recently.
There is money to fund Professional Development up to $5,000.00 for attending professional workshops.
Dr. Worley made a suggestion for two areas that are needed: non-parametric statistics and analysis
of variance. Faculty member would come back and give a seminar to faculty.
Meeting adjourned at 2:20.
