Minutes of the Meeting
College of Business—Natchitoches Room
Monday, August 30, 2004
12:00 p.m.

Faculty Absent: Dr. Nat Briscoe, Dr. Terry Bechtel, Ms. Dorothy Jones, Dr. Mark
Schaub, Marcus Jones, and Dr. Bob Jones.

Old Business: Expenditure of 2005-2006 Budget Enhancement Request, Non-Recurring Cost.

The floor was open for suggestions about expenditures. Dr. Kilcoyne mentioned the lack
of a statistical package for faculty and student use. She mentioned that she had contacted
by phone Dr. Gentry in Education. Dr. Gentry was very interested in purchasing a
statistical package for faculty and student. A message was left for Dr. Cass Bryd. To date,
Dr. Kilcoyne had not received a call back from Dr. Bryd. Dr. Kilcoyne also contacted
Institutional Research. They are currently using SPSS ver. 10. Dr. Kilcoyne also reported
information from SPSS. Nicole Pamukov is NSU’s representative. She provided
telephone information for Dr. Kilcoyne. Dr. Kilcoyne provided information about the
cost of the various options. For a 10,500 full-time enrollment, the quote included an
initial fee of $21,341 plus renewal fee of $14,501 per year. With this option, the faculty
and staff and students had unlimited access. However, it could not be loaded on students’
personal computers. If the university could not pay the renewal fee then they could not
use the software. The cost of a perpetual license for 25 users would be $32,977 plus a
maintenance fee of $3,533 per year. Purchasing through perpetual would be like
purchasing software. If the university could not pay the maintenance fee then it still had
25 licenses but no updates.

A motion was made to purchase a statistical package for faculty/student research
purposes by Dr. Tarver. Discussion followed about the number of licenses and type of
licenses to purchase and should it be a university wide purchase or a specific college
purchase. Faculty requested that Dr. Kilcoyne get information for 50 user licenses. A vote
was taken and passed.

Therefore, the College of Business would like to set as its number one priority the
purchase of a statistical research package for faculty/student use.
