Students seeking a major in CIS must complete 122 semester hours, within which 63 hours will consist of Business and CIS courses. This core consists of:

• CIS 1800: Microcomputer Applications I - Introduction to Information Technology
• CIS 1030: Structured Programming Design Techniques
• CIS 2020: Structured COBOL Programming
• CIS 2980: Introduction to Database Systems
• CIS 3100: E-Commerce Technology in Business
• CIS 3400: Business Telecommunications and Networks
• CIS 3900: Systems Analysis and Development, and
• one of the two available 18 hour concentrations described below.

Additionally, the following CIS support courses are required:

• ACCT 2000 and 2010;
• BUAD 3250;
• FIN 3090;
• MGT 3220, 3580, 4300; and
• MKT 3230.

Northwestern's CIS program has two available major concentrations: Application Development and E-Commerce. Both have a total of 18 hours requirements. The course requirements for each are as follows:

• CIS 4030: E-Commerce Systems: Client-Side Development
